It is very important that running starts in July, not in August. Our first meet is August 16 (probably), so if you spend the summer relaxing, the season will have a very rough start.
You should use Strava to keep track of your distance -- click HERE for signup. You can use a GPS running watch to keep track of your pace and distance or use the Strava app which has a similar live tracking feature. For those of you who must run with a phone because you don't have a GPS running watch: Note that holding a phone in your hand changes your gait and is not good for your development as a runner. So, we suggest buying an inexpensive running belt or arm band that will secure your phone while you run. See some examples below.
If you are in town, you should be running with your teammates...we improve much more as a team than we do running on our own!
If you travel during the summer, you still need to be running...find a beach or a path wherever you are to get your miles in.
If you are playing another outdoor sport, such as soccer, please let your coaches know so we can guide you. Generally, as long as you are running all summer in one way or another, and spending enough time outside that you get used to the heat, that's fine. But athletes trying to train for XC and play a summer sport need additional guidance for injury prevention.
